The simple rules

Terms of use

The rules for using #MyTruth, in plain language. By using this page, you agree to them.

Last updated: June 2026

Thank you for trusting #MyTruth with your experience. We've written these rules in plain language so they're easy to understand.

What #MyTruth is

#MyTruth is a project of TherapyNow NPC. It's a safe space to tell us how you were treated when you went to a South African police station. We gather these experiences privately and share only anonymous totals — never your name, your words, or your documents. The goal is accountability: showing, in numbers, how people are treated, so it can't be ignored.

It is not an emergency service

If you are in danger right now, call 10111, or the GBV Command Centre on 0800 428 428. #MyTruth can't help in an emergency, and it is not a way to report a crime to the police. To report a crime, you still need to go to SAPS.

It is not legal advice

We can support you and point you to the right offices, but we are not lawyers, and nothing here is legal advice. For legal advice, please speak to an attorney or a legal aid office.

Who can use it

You need to be 18 or older to send a report. If you're under 18, or you're helping someone else, please contact us first at accounts@therapynow.co.za so we can support you safely.

Your promise to us

When you send a report, you're telling us that what you've written is true to the best of your knowledge, and that anything you attach is yours to share. Please don't include other people's private details (like ID numbers or addresses), and please don't use #MyTruth to harm or falsely accuse anyone.

What we publish — and what we never publish

The only thing we ever show in public is anonymous totals, like "12 reports of statements not being taken." We never publish your name, your story in your words, your documents, or anyone else's name. The full detail is in our Privacy notice.

Your documents

If you choose to attach an affidavit or other document, it stays completely private. Only our small review team can see it, and only to understand and support your report. It is never published or shared.

We check everything

A real person on our team reviews submissions. We may decline or remove anything that isn't safe, isn't true, or breaks these rules — for example, content that names and accuses a person, or that could identify a child.

You can remove your report

You can ask us to delete your report at any time, for any reason — just use the Delete my report page or contact us. Once a report has been counted into the anonymous totals, those totals can't be traced back to you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We'll always post the latest version here, with the date it was updated.
